Qatar’s Emir Urges Halt to US-Iran Escalation
The appeal was made during a phone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron.
According to a statement from the Emiri Diwan, the two leaders discussed recent regional developments following an Iranian strike on the Ras Laffan gas facility in northeastern Qatar, along with its implications for regional security, stability, and energy supply.
The Emir cautioned that continued attacks on critical infrastructure pose a direct risk to both regional and international stability. He reiterated the need to stop the escalation immediately and emphasized the importance of coordinated global efforts to manage tensions and prevent further expansion of the crisis through diplomacy.
President Macron, for his part, underscored the importance of ending military actions that target civilian infrastructure, especially energy and water facilities. He also highlighted the necessity of protecting civilians, ensuring access to essential services, and maintaining the stability of global energy supplies amid ongoing conflict.
QatarEnergy confirmed that a recent missile strike caused fires and damage at its gas infrastructure in Qatar early Thursday.
