US Evacuates Troops from Qatar, Bahrain Amid Rising Middle East Tensions
Among the sites affected is Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, described as the largest American military installation in the Middle East and home to approximately 10,000 troops. The report also indicated that personnel were withdrawn from Bahrain, where the US Navy’s 5th Fleet operates.
Despite the redeployment, US forces continue to maintain a presence at bases across Iraq, Syria, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and the United Arab Emirates.
Observers view the move as a precautionary step amid growing speculation that Washington could launch military action against Iran. Tehran has signaled it would retaliate by targeting US assets throughout the region if such an attack were to occur.
The US military’s Central Command, responsible for overseeing operations across Iran and neighboring areas, did not immediately comment when asked about the reported adjustments.
In correspondence sent Thursday to the UN secretary-general, the head of Iran’s mission to the United Nations warned that in the event of an assault, “all bases, facilities, and assets of the hostile force in the region would constitute legitimate targets,” and that the “United States would bear full and direct responsibility for any unpredictable and uncontrolled consequences.”
